Quote-leftChrono Cross is a 2.5 star game with a 5 star soundtrack. The music is among the best I have ever heard in a game. Its a shame that the rest of the game is such a let down. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, and many have argued that Trigger fans hate Cross for not being Chrono Trigger 2. Actually, the game's biggest flaw is that it IS Chrono Trigger 2.

I enjoyed roughly the first half of Cross. The plot was a bit too reliant on metaphysical mumbo jumbo, and there were too many characters (most of which get virtually no development). Still, it was a pretty good name-only sequel (like most of the Final Fantasy games). All of a sudden, the game says, "No, this isn't just a name-only sequel" and proceeds to ruin itself. As the game continues, more and more plot holes relating to Trigger arise. Eventually, we get to the infamous "beach scene" and the 10 minute info dump that ends with an extremely disappointing final boss.

If you've never played Chrono Trigger, Cross might be a fairly enjoyable game. It won't make any goddamn sense, but it might still be fun. As a diehard Trigger fan, however, I can't shake the feeling that Cross was nothing more than Masato Kato flipping me off.Quote-right

Quote-leftThe second line up in the Chrono series no longer has time, but space as the story behind it. Serge, the silent protagonist finds himself warping into another reality. This world he wakes in he finds himself the game person, in the same world, however everything is different, in fact it's amazingly different, apparently, in this new world Serge finds himself in, he died 8 years ago. The story then goes on to find out the cause of the dimensional tear, and attempts to fix all that is going wrong.

Being part of the Chrono series, I may be biased, however I truly loved this game as well. The story is far more in depth, and the massive amounts of characters are amazingly and loveable. Truly this game takes a huge step where Chrono Trigger left off, while also making its own mark in the story line. This is a must have for any RPG lover.

Quote-leftQuite possibly the greatest rpg of all time...Quote-right

Quote-leftFinally got around to playing this game after having been a huge Chrono Trigger fan ever since it came out. However, I always put it off because I didn't hear the greatest reviews of the game. But I finally borrowed a copy and forced myself to play through the game, if only for the storyline, and to be able to say "I played it."

The verdict: I wasn't impressed. I guess it was worth playing through once, but I can assure you I will likely never play the game again. I'm not sure why a decent amount of people like this game...are they underexposed to RPGs in general? *shrug* The battle system is annoying at best. The most redeeming feature of this game is its music.

Just be careful with the high ratings and recommendations others make for this game -- especially if you are an experienced RPGer. There are much better games out these days, so unless you have a vested interest in seeing what happens down the road in the Chrono Trigger storyline, then do NOT buy this game -- see if you can borrow it or something, if you really insist on trying it.Quote-right

Quote-leftahh chrono cross...another of the few games to have a unique story line beyond the FF cloned junk. Although I haven't played this in forever I can still remember the story well and thats what makes great RPGs. RPGs aren't supposed to be something you pick up and play for 30 minutes before dinner and then leave it till next week. Good RPGs aren't played and then left in the bottom drawer. They tell you a story and if the do it any good you still remember (Like a good book). I have played FF IIX, IX, X, X-2, and XII and apart from IX I don't remember a thing about em. Call me crazy but I can still see Cross', FF IX's and a few other's cut scenes play in my head XD and that to me is what an RPG should do.Quote-right

Quote-leftThis is by far one of the best classic video games in gaming history, with its beautiful sound, epic storyline, great game play, wide arrange of spells and unique abilities, and not to mention its vast collection of possible party members at your disposal. With the countless possible endings to the game, you can enjoy the game with its spectacular 3-D environment and all it's glorious wonders in different aspects of different people. As you progress through the story, you discover the mysterious past of Serge and his adventure to figure out wtf is going on! Also with its New Game+ and Continue+ features, you can become even stronger and shoot for different endings if you wish with many different bonus goodies. Highly recommended to everyone of all ages.Quote-right

Quote-leftI know most people love this game, but I don't understand why. The combat system is basically the same old turn based stuff, the storyline is tangled and confusing, and the sheer number of characters is daunting. The visuals were awesome, and the music was very, very good, but it just didn't do it for me.Quote-right

Quote-leftI think the only thing that kept me playing this game was that I wanted so badly for it to be a great game. It's prequel, "Chrono Trigger," was one of the best action-RPGs ever made, and this one failed to live up to its legacy.Quote-right

Quote-leftExcellent game, detailing multiple dimensions, rather than times. Very similar to Chrono Trigger with a mute protagonist and princess love-interest. The stamina-battle system was interesting and unique, similar to Xenogears. Overall, very polished, similar to Chrono Trigger -- just in the tropics (yes, it does take place in a tropical area of Chrono Trigger's world).Quote-right

Quote-leftSuperb game I absolutely loved this, the storyline, the characters, and the gameplay. It was a bit too easy though at times.Quote-right
