The DS may not do 3D graphics very well, but that fact has hardly ruined my enjoyment of the cut scenes in this remake. This is the only Final Fantasy game I need, though I also quite like FF VI. And the cutscenes make the story easier to follow and even more emotional to play. This game has the best balance of gameplay to be found in the entire series-- you actually feel connected to the characters and feel sad when they die in the narrative, because you have to work so hard to keep them alive during battles.
Whenever the game's difficulty becomes frustrating, the new mini-games are a welcome break from the narrative. Cecil's Goblin Gauntlet is especially well executed, but the others are a decent change of gameplay without being addictive enough to keep you from returning to the story. (show less)
